MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao is expected to counter Ricky Hatton’s power with his speedy movement inside the ring.
This was according to British sportswriter Gareth Davies, in an interview with Philboxing.com.
Hatton has been boasting that he is more powerful than Pacquiao as he is the natural 140-pound fighter among the two sluggers.
Davies, however, said that Hatton’s power would be worthless against Pacquiao’s speed. “(Hatton) may not get the better of Pacquiao’s super-speed and incredible (super crablike) lateral movements."
“(With Pacquiao) striking from different directions naturally which will call situations that Hatton may not be able to hit Pacquiao effectively and may become less effective with his aggressions," added Davies.
Davies, however, does not discount Hatton’s ability to sneak-in that power punch the same punch that downed Mexican Jose Luis Castillo on June 23, 2007.
Hatton, unloading a barrage of punches to the body, scored a fourth-round technical knockout against Castillo in their World Boxing Council (WBC) light welterweight and International Boxing Organization (IBO) light welterweight championship bout.
“A perfect punch to the body just as what he did to (Castillo) may not be a remote possibility," warned Davies.
Davies added that Hatton may dominate Pacquiao in the first three rounds. But, “Pacquiao will catch him up and through within fourth to fifth rounds and will clinically land more punches until the eight or ninth round."
Davies is a veteran sportswriter from the Telegraph Media Group. – GMANews.TV
