LAS VEGAS -- We’ll find out this weekend if one good punch can knock Las Vegas out of its economic slump.
That’s when boxing fans arrive for the biggest fight of the year, Ricky Hatton versus Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand.
Tickets to Saturday night’s fight are selling for as much as $14,456 on eBay. The cheapest ticket on the Web site is listed at $275.
Casinos are hoping that most fans opt to spend that money at the sports books. Pacquiao is the heavy favorite to win, getting 2-1 odds at many resorts.
Alcohol sales could also surge this weekend. The Los Angeles Times recently reported that records for beer consumption are set whenever Hatton fights in Las Vegas.
