MANILA, Philippines - A representative of Ricky Hatton confirmed in an online report that the British boxer has signed the deal to fight Manny Pacquiao on May 2 in Las Vegas.
Los Angeles Times sportswriter Lance Pugmire reported on Tuesday that Richard Schaefer, the chief executive of Golden Boy Promotions, had called up Pugmire to inform him of the development.
"When you make a superfight of this magnitude, it's very exciting," Schaefer, whose outfit promotes Hatton, said. "These guys have two great styles. It'll be a great night for the fans."
With Hatton’s name on the dotted line, the fight that hit a snag a couple of times finally gets underway, with the venue the only thing left unsettled in a fight pitting the sport’s most well-known brawlers.
The fight, which has been set at the super-lightweight (140lbs) level, will be Pacquiao’s fourth in a row in a different weight class, following victories at 130lbs, 135lbs and 147lbs last year.
Although Pacquiao (48-3-2, win-loss-draw) is tagged as boxing’s most bankable star today, the catch weight has been Hatton’s territory for some time now.
Hatton’s only loss in his career was at the welterweight class (147lbs) when he was kayoed by Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2007. Otherwise, the super-lightweight campaigner has been spotless in 46 professional career fights. - GMANews.TV
